‘JustFlow’ Comedy Telethon: Ellington to host national event
WASHINGTON – Millions of people around the country have suffered devastating consequences due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Not surprisingly, the impact for students and families within the Historically Black Colleges & Universities community has been disproportionately high.
Humor Mill TV and Visionary Farm, Inc., are joining forces to make a difference through the JustFlow Comedy Telethon on April 11, from noon to 6 p.m. (EST). The event will be livestreamed from select HBCUs and cultural arts centers, including Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Duke Ellington School of the Arts in DC. There will be various comedians, student performances, callouts and much more.
Proceeds will be used for student scholarships with a portion going to Ellington to support scholastic arts education. Several acclaimed entertainers, advertisers, and sponsors have expressed interest in this monumental effort. Additional information, including the guest host, is forthcoming.
“Our goal is to secure scholarships for as many students as possible and we hope to support their families as well,” says Frank Holder of Humor Mill TV, an urban comedy broadcast linear channel. “We need everyone’s support to make that happen.”
“We are looking for partners at various levels to join us in this effort,” says Bill Overton of Visionary Farm, a nonprofit organization based in Santa Monica, Calif. “That includes possible broadcast networks as well as sponsors to provide specific product-based releases.”
“We are honored to be part of this historic event,” says Ellington Principal Sandi M. Logan. “It will be great for our students to work with HBCU students on pre-production and live elements of this show.”
