Greetings Ellington Community!

I hope you all are doing well. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who made it out to our first in-person back-to-school night in two years! It is always a pleasure to spend time with the families of our students. We can’t wait to see you all for parent-teacher conferences in October.

Did you know September 15-October 15 is National Hispanic Heritage Month? This month is to celebrate the achievements, histories, traditions, and cultural diversity of Hispanic Americans whose heritage is rooted in 20 Latin American countries.  This year’s theme is Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation. This theme reinforces the need to ensure diverse voices and perspectives are welcomed in decision-making processes, thereby helping to build stronger communities and a stronger, more inclusive, society. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Seniors in our Museum Studies Department are hosting a screening of Disney and Pixar’s “CoCo” this Wednesday. You can find more details below.

During Back-to-School Night, we emphasized our desire to fulfill our mission to inspire and nurture the next generation of artists and global citizens. Each of us has a responsibility to keep Duke Ellington School of the Arts a place of excellence and endless talent. Tomorrow we will send out our 2022-2023 Community Handbook. We’re asking that you review the handbook with your child this week. Once you have reviewed and discussed the expectations of your child’s behavior and academics/arts, you will be asked to sign and complete an Ellington Parent Acknowledgement form.

We are redesigning our 12-year-old website and want to hear your thoughts! Please click here to take our short survey here.

Ellington’s first LSAT meeting for the 2022-2023 school year will take place on Monday, September 26, at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will be in-person in the White Library at Ellington. Or you can participate virtually using this link. Meeting ID: 285 759 326 745. Passcode: SH54zD
