B2S @Duke – Ellington Fund Newsletter

Greetings Ellington Community –
We have much good news to share. Our students are back in school and enjoying all the benefits of in-person instruction once again. We ended last school year on a high note with 99% of our seniors graduating despite the challenges presented by the pandemic. Check out the highlights below to see how incredible our student-artists really are.
As you are probably aware, Duke Ellington is a unique public-private partnership with The George Washington University, The John F. Kennedy Center of Performing Arts, The Ellington Fund and the DC Public School system. While this means we have the freedom to offer our students a world-class arts curriculum, it also means we must raise money to pay for it. Thanks to many people involved in this partnership, Principal Sandi Logan and many of our parents, we secured additional money from DCPS for the coming school year to help us do just that. This money will help us retain the best teachers (arts and academic) possible. While we have come far, we still must continue raising funds so that we can continue to offer a life-changing college preparatory and arts education to every talented student in the District. I would like to take this opportunity introduce two of our newest Ellington Fund board members, Robin Nunn of Morgan Lewis LLP and Matthew Gray of Brown Advisory. We look forward to working closely with them this year to raise even more money for our favorite school! Scroll down to read more about them.
Lastly, I would like to congratulate our two Emmy-nominated alums, Dave Chappelle, nominated for his documentary, 8:46, and Samira Wiley, nominated for best supporting actress for her role in Handmaid’s Tale. Dave and Samira – We will be cheering for you on September 19!
