News You Can Use
As a part of The Laramie Project, the Theatre Department has designed a campaign called OWN IT. The mission is to empower youth who face discrimination and support their journey to OWN IT. In a nation of differences, we are fighting to end hate crimes by accepting ourselves and others, owning up to our mistakes, and advocating for change in our communities: We will OWN IT. This campaign partners with organizations like Girls Inc DC, SMYAL, and DC Public Schools to help us identify young people who were victims of hate crimes or prejudice. These young people will receive the full VIP treatment during the performance of The Laramie Project.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
*Purchase an ad for your business or a shout out for an actor in the show
*Purchase an OWN IT. T-shirt
*Purchase a Matthew Shepard bracelet (25% of the proceeds will support the Matthew Shepard Foundation).
All funds raised from ads, t-shirts, and bracelets support young people from partnering organizations: OWNIT.flipcause.com
DC One Cards
We have begun the process of making sure every DESA student has a DC One card. DESA staff and faculty who are a DC Government employee (has a PeopleSoft number) may also request a DC One card.
Every DESA student should have a DC One card, whether or not you are a DC resident. This is a form of identification. If you are a student and a DC resident, you may also have a Kids Ride Free card for WMATA. It is ok to have both cards.
The DC One Card is a consolidated credential designed to give children, adults and seniors access to DC government facilities and programs, including public schools, recreation centers, libraries and the Metro. If you want to know more about the DC One care, visit this website: https://octo.dc.gov/page/dc-one-card.
For those students with a current/clear/appropriate/etc. photo in the DC One database (the photo that prints on your late pass at the front desk), you may request a new DC One card here: https://forms.gle/UfMCoVYUTgP415YS7.
ONCE AGAIN, THIS FORM IS ONLY FOR THOSE STUDENTS WHO HAVE A PROPER PHOTO ALREADY IN THE DC ONE DATABASE.
You will be notified via email when your DC One card has arrived and is ready for pick-up in G89…so check your email!
We will soon be taking new pictures for those who need one. As soon as I am ready to take photos, a schedule with available dates/times for photo-taking will be shared with you.
