We Want You To Help Shape The Future Of DCPS, Letter from Chancellor Wilson

February 27, 2017

Dear DCPS community,

When I joined DCPS as Chancellor on February 1, I knew that I was joining a district and city on the rise. I was excited to come to DCPS not only because of the progress it has made, but because of its potential. The people I’ve met here, from pre-K students to city leaders, have impressed me with their talent and dedication.

In 2012, DCPS launched an ambitious strategic plan—five goals known as the Capital Commitment. Five years later, academic performance is up, graduation rates are up, enrollment is up, student satisfaction is up, and it’s time to set a new vision for what our district can accomplish. It’s time to take our schools—all of them—to the next level.

I’m frequently asked about my plans for DCPS. And I have many ideas. But you, the DCPS community, know better than anyone what your children and schools need to reach their full measure of greatness.

Over the next few months, I will be asking for your vision for DCPS. What will it take so that every student, parent, and educator can walk into their school and feel welcomed, inspired, and supported? How can we instill excellence and equity at all levels of our district?

I will host conversations at schools across the city with families and faculty, lead engagement sessions in every ward, and meet with leaders representing our faith, neighborhood, and business communities. DCPS will also set up a write-in campaign, so that everyone has the opportunity to inform the priorities that will guide our next five years.

I’m counting on you to share your honest feedback and your wildest dreams. We are DCPS and together, we can do this.
