Welcome to SHADE, a parents’ organization designed for the sole purpose of assisting parents in navigating the best possible outcomes for their child.

SHADE’s mission is to work as a unified body for the benefit, promotion, and support of the school by serving as a liaison and representative of the school community at large. Two parent representatives and two alternates from each of the eight arts majors make up the executive committee of SHADE.
SHADE is a membership organization requiring a small membership fee to be paid at the beginning of the school year. Because you have selected Duke Ellington for your child’s education, you should be aware that in order for your child to perform at his or her best, much of your support and oversight is required.
SHADE provides support for school-wide activities and concerns, including academics, social learning environment, program enhancement and enrichment. Each of Ellington’s arts departments has a parent body consisting of parents whose children are in that major. This parent group provides support to their child’s specific talent. The departmental parent group usually meets on a monthly basis.
One should contact the art department chair for more specific information about the groups.
