The Colour of Music Festival highlights the impact of black classical composers and performers on American and world culture.

The Colour of Music Festival delivers a global offering of the most talented musicians of African ancestry from around the U.S., Canada, Russia, the Caribbean, South America, Africa, and Europe. This partnership provides a unique opportunity for our students to expand their repertoire while affirming their place in the world of classical music.

Included in the festival petit will be a showcase performance on Thursday, March 14, 2019 of the Colour of Music Virtuosi (all-female) Chamber Orchestra, which highlights the contributions of black female composers and is presented in honor of our Co-Founder, Peggy Cooper Cafritz.

The grand performance on Saturday, March 16, 2019 will include Dvorak’s New World Symphony, performed by the Duke Ellington School of the Arts Orchestra and Mozart’s Requiem performed by the Colour of Music Chamber Orchestra, the Duke Ellington School of the Arts Orchestra, and the Ellington Chorale.

A portion of the proceeds of this event will directly support the Instrumental and Vocal Music departments at Duke Ellington School of the Arts.
