Could Duke Ellington School of the Arts be for you?

Students

Do you have an inner diva? Are you made to be on stage? Does every weekend find you at a gallery or museum? Are you a behind-the-scenes kind of person? Is there always a song in your head, your heart, your throat? Have you worn out 32 pairs of dance shoes? Is there paint permanently under your fingernails? Do you have a way with words? Do you tickle the ivories?

If you answered "yes" to one or more of these questions, the arts may be in your blood. Follow your dreams. Become an Ellington student!

Ellington auditions incoming 9th and 10th graders; attendance is tuition-free for verified District residents. Non-residents must pay tuition to the District of Columbia Public Schools.  Students may audition for 1 or 2 arts areas, but if you attend Ellington you will major in a single art.

We have 8 exciting arts majors - click on any of the majors below to learn more about that art at Ellington.

Dance Instrumental Music
Literary Media & Communications Museum Studies
Technical Design & Production Theater
Visual Arts Vocal Music

  • December 15 - deadline for priority applications.  Applications completed after this date will be scheduled for auditions on a space-available basis.
