A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

Dear Ellington Community,

It is with great pride that I welcome you to the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, an institution that has brought tremendous opportunity in the arts to DC public school students for over three decades.

In all my years in the arts, I have never encountered such vibrancy, energy, and vision as what I’ve found at Ellington. Our students are outstanding—they’ll amaze you with their raw talent, professionalism, and creative force.

Our faculty is equally dedicated. With years of experience in academia and the arts, they hail from the finest arts organizations in the world. Ellington faculty includes seven Fulbright Scholars, award-winning writers and musicians, various PhD’s, and DCPS’s only National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) in Young Adulthood English/Language Arts.

The Ellington Family—students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and community—create together. Working together, we excel. We achieve together. One sound. One stage. One band. One school. Uniquely Ellington. And how sweet it is!

Take the time to explore our website. Within its pages, you’ll learn in depth about our various academic programs and arts disciplines, our faculty, our history, our alumni, and of course, how to support us.

Our students deserve every opportunity. I hope you’ll take advantage of all they have to offer. Visit our school. Attend our wonderful performances and exhibits. I promise, no matter who you are, the Duke Ellington School of the Arts will enrich your life.
